A Little Patience – A Lot Of Money

The real rewards of making money online don’t happen overnight. Anyone expecting to make decent money from a blog or website needs to exercise some patience and self discipline just like in any business.

Patience is what I rate as one of the most important key’s to a successful money making website as a pose to a “fly by night site”. It’s my feeling that a site needs to mature before you start introducing advertising or other money making programs, for exactly how long will depend on how aggressively you market your site but let me share my reason for thinking this way.

One of the key elements to gaining a good ranking in the major search engine’s is the number and quality of backlinks to your site, specifically one way links. If the search engine’s “see” a lot of other quality sites linking back to yours then they view you as an authority on your site topic and reward you with a better ranking. Now as your site steadily grows with time it is good practice to constantly be submitting your site information along with your URL to many of the free directories on the Internet In an attempt to be building these one way links and gradually climbing the rankings.

If your site is filled with advertising and other online money maker’s then It’s highly likely that some, if not all, of the directories will refuse to link to your site.

Believe me, I’ve tasted rejection!

So here’s what I would suggest to be a good order of doing things if you’re just starting out and ultimately looking to make some good money online from your site:

1. Set up the theme, layout etc of your site to be very user friendly WITHOUT any advertising.
2. Write good articles, rich in content, give your point of view on matters and post frequently.
3. Set yourself a time period you are going to wait before you start including ads. (Personally, I would say at least 6 months).
4. Stick to that time period. (It’s going to be very tempting to start adding a few ads, especially when you start getting good traffic…. DON’T…. Not yet).
5. During this period, submit to as many online directories as you can to gain backlinks.
6. When this period is over, you should have gained a lot of backlinks and have a good flow of traffic to your site so NOW put the ads in.
7. Start making some real money online!
8. And don’t stop posting now, this is just the beginning!

Actually you don’t have to be “starting out” as I said earlier. If you feel you are not making enough money online with your site at the moment, take your ads off. Re-arrange things a little if your site looks a bit bare without the ads and then start submitting to the online directories.

You’re bound to get better search engine rankings and ultimately more and more traffic.
