A WordPress Plugin To Help Search Engine Rankings

There’s a good chance that google is indexing two domains for your site. The one would be with the www in the beginning so it will look something like http://www.yourwebsite.com
and the other without the www so looking like this

http://yourwebsite.com.

Ideally you need to decide on one or the other and stick by it so that google doesn’t penalize your search engine ranking for having two different URL’s that point to the same page.

Now it is possible to set up a 301 redirect but that involves messing around with your .htaccess file and not everyone is comfortable with that.

For this blog I decided to have the www in the beginning (for no reason other than I had to choose one) and there is another great wordpress plugin that allowed me to set this without having to play around in my .htaccess file.

This wordpress plugin is called Enforce www. Preference and you can get it here.

Firstly you need to upload the plugin and activate it in the wordpress plugins section in your control panel. Then, under the General tab in your Options, you simply add the www in the WordPress address (URL) field if it’s not already there.

So now, if on the control panel you have http://www.yourwebsite.com, the plugin will add a www. every time a visitor tries to access the site through http://yourwebsite.com.

Yet another way to help with your search engine rankings and pretty neat.
