Is Entrecard a Complete Waste of Time?

The new business card swapping and advertising program Entrecard is now in it’s 3rd month, or is it 2nd? Anyway lately I’ve been wondering whether or not people think it’s going to last very long or just go down the same toilet that it seems blogrush is slipping ( maybe they could rename BlogRush to BogBrush )!

As I was thinking about Entrecard so much today I thought I would just try and get a few other opinions on the Entrecard system to see your thoughts on the longevity of the program. Have a quick read through the following list of what I reckon are the main advantages and disadvantages of using Entrecard on a regular basis and feel free to let me know your thoughts on the subject.

Advantages of using Entrecard:

1: You come across some interesting blogs
2: You get a chance to advertise on some of the well known blogs (if you can get in)
3: With enough Entrecard credits you can advertise on hundreds of blogs in a week
4: There’s a nice community vibe going around the forums which can be cool to be a part of
5: The Entrecard program is well set up, simple and user friendly
6: You can become an Entrecard seller and offer products or services in the Entrecard shop in exchange for more credits which means you can do more of points 2 and 3 above or buy other things

Disadvantages of using Entrecard:

1: It takes time to visit other blogs to drop cards and build up a decent amount of credits
2: You can pay a lot of well earned credits to advertise on a blog that gets no traffic
3: Some people are focused on gaming the system and letting others know how to… Not a good thing
4: You can spend a lot of time in Entrecard, dropping cards (as I’ve said), chatting within the forums and at the end of the day you get little in return except some generated traffic which in all honesty is mainly other Entrecarder’s just blog hopping and dropping

The points above are just my thoughts off the top of my head, personally I quite like Entrecard although I’ve had to discipline myself to only use it at certain times of the day because of the time factor. Sadly I have other work to do now and then. :???:

Thoughts on Entrecard anyone?

It’s really a matter of finding a good balance and sticking with it. I actively participate in a number of social networking sites, and I haven’t found it encroaching on my time to develop posts, or comment on other blogs etc.

With Entrecard, or any other means to build web traffic, it will take work and effort. There are upsides and downsides to each social networking site, and you just have to figure out which works best for you.

i haven’t registered with Entrecard myself, but what i have identified is the fact that you can build up credits to advertise on other sites – this is cool. Although people can become “blind” to Entrecard ads in the future, just like some Google Ads.

Also isn’t it annoying have all this traffic coming from Entrecard but yet knowing that it’s just people other bloggers dropping there card? I think it can mess up your stats…

this is coming from a non-Entrecard user so i might be totally off here… just some things that came to mind. :)

Your number one disadvantage isn’t a disadvantage at all. Visiting other blogs is something EVERY blogger should be doing anyways. Commenting, gathering ideas and just seeing what other people have to say is generally a good practice for any blogger. Especially one who wants to build traffic.

Entrecard is just another incentive for visiting more blogs (especially ones you wouldn’t normally visit!)

Yes you’re right, visiting, reading and commenting on other blogs is part of what we do.

What I’m saying here is part of building up a DECENT amount of Entrecard credits requires having to visit an extreme amount of blogs which can be a lot more time consuming than normal and to some that will certainly be a disadvantage.

I still can’t make up my mind on this one. I am not a blogger in that blogging is not my occupation. I in fact have very little time availabe for it. I know very little about seo or traffic generation or for that matter how to improve it. The revenue though minimal was just an aside.

My sites did not attract much traffic but the traffic it did attract was from people who had a direct intrest in my product. I hear people say any hits are better than no hits. I must say the numbers have certainly gone up, yet if I look at my adsense acc nothing has changed. All the new hits are from blog hoppers who find the card and move on to the next one.

I suppose only time will tell

I like entrecard. I have found so many interesting blogs through entrecard and so many interesting bloggers have found my blog as well through entrecard. It is time consuming yes, but for a full time blogger I just take it as part of my job. Weird theory I know but I have some spare time so I might as well use it to make my blog grow.

Cool, not weird at all mate.

I think if you’re blogging full time Entrecard becomes a great asset. I suppose my point of view comes more from those of us who are not blogging for a living.

All the best with your blogs this year by the way.

I am a part-time blogger and I like EntreCard so far! As many of the commentors said, it helps you get some more exposure while introducing you to some interesting blogs out there.
One question that came to my mind, especially with the time it consumes to get a fair amount of credits, is : How much can an EntreCard credit be worth in terms of real money. I assume that those credits are getting some kind of value among bloggers, but could it be measured in terms of real cash? I am running a poll on my blog to try and figure this out. But in the same time, what are the consequences of giving a cash value to those credits? I think that if the possibility is offered to buy EC credits, less people will visit blogs to get ECs. But in the other hand, more people will be interested in selling EC credits and will have to gather more of them by visiting other blogs.
