Making Extra Money in South Africa

Making extra money in South Africa is not that easy, but if you have some good ideas that you believe can work, then put your ideas to the test and earn cash. There are just some aspects you have to look at, like the many scams that you can find online. Finding jobs these days may not be the easiest thing to do as business can be scarce, and this is why you have to find something for yourself. To get the finance you need, you can’t always depend on other people to look out for you, but you always have to be so careful that you don’t get caught in someone’s traps.

There are many ideas that you can choose from when you want to go into your own business, and making extra money in South Africa is vital for some people. You can do online writing, marketing, website designing, etc, otherwise you could look into catering, wedding planning and the likes, depending on what you enjoy doing. Although, if you want to do something that will require you to buy stock, you have to make sure you have the finance available to start up. You can earn cash by doing whatever it is that you love doing, as long as you can make it work.

That way, once your company has expanded you will eventually be able to create jobs for others. The only thing you have to look out for when looking for online work is the scams that people come out with. You could even do something like this as a second job if you already have a day job but need to generate more of an income. For many South Africans, having one job is not enough and they need to do something to make more money. Making extra money in South Africa might not be easy, but it can be done.

    Hi there,

Which bank is the best in South Africa for receiving international cheques?

From time to time I’ve received small clickbank & such cheques and paid them in with ABSA, but have in recent years closed my ABSA accounts because of another fraudulent transaction ABSA employees had committed on one of my accounts and the 8-month long battle I had to fight to get them to correct their misdeed.

Because of FNB’s affiliation with Paypal and a credit card account I had with FNB anyway, I basically moved all my business over to FNB.

(I also have a capitec account but they told me they do not process international cheques at all).

Not long ago I received a small international cheque in US Dollars, but knew it was going to be too small to process. Still I asked at FNB, and they told me it’s going to cost R50 to process. I just wrote off that cheque for $13 but remembered for future reference that FNB told me they ask R50 to process a cheque like this.

Since last week I have in my possession a clickbank cheque for $120 (roughly 700 and something rands), which I took to FNB to pay in with them.

As you may be sensing, it was a nightmare that made me swear to move all my banking matters over to yet another bank.

Aside from the hour I had to wait and wait and wait before somebody was available to help, when I finally was in front of the woman whose attitude resembles that of a half dead grouch, it was soon obvious that she had no intention of being helpful or competent.

Instead of processing the cheque, she was silently studying her computer screen and then was talking a bunch of rubbish asking why my last salary payment isn’t showing on my account and that I must pay the cheque in at the bank where I bank my salary. (Can this be for real? A bank who encourages their client to just take their business elsewhere?)

When I tried to get her irrelevant rubbishtalking head back to processing the cheque, she all casually says it’s going to cost R600 and will take 8 weeks to clear.

Of course inside I suddenly see red. This imcompetent thief thinks she can insult my intelligence like this and steal my money in the process. Seems FNB assumes their clients are dumb and will pay whatever they ask.

This of course on a cheque of only about R700 and something rand, she has the unreasonable criminal intent to think I will be happy to pay R600 for her to process it. I DON’T THINK SO!!

I walked right back out of that incompetent bank with my cheque still in my hand. Worst, worst, worst service I’ve ever experienced at a bank.

So now I’d like to please ask if you know which South African bank is competent enough to do this simple transaction for me for the lowest fee (or free but for commission?), and from now on every other international cheque I receive.
