I am very wary of scams –sites like these are extremely important warning mechanisms.
I decided to investigate ways “to make money using the Internet”. Being of the older generation (65+!) I decided to do my research before spending ANY money. I also know very little about things like blogs, websites, network marketing, Adsense, Google Adds, Click Bank, SEO, MLM and all these wonderful terms. Being a professionally qualified person myself I realised I needed to find a “professional” course to use as a guide to internet marketing.
My research took me 6 weeks. From forums like this I gained many pointers and advice. Maybe I was just lucky, but amongst all the presentations on the net I found the course I was looking for (don`t ask me how as I don`t always know what I`m doing ?) – with an 8 weeks pay back policy that is genuine (as far I could establish). I was hesitant to spend a the money, especially in these difficult times, but I did it.
I was promised that I would have to WORK HARD, LEARN, AQUIRE SKILLS and if I wanted to make a QUICK BUCK I should get off the course and forget it. I liked the approach.
This is not an e-book but a system. Also you don`t HAVE to spend additional money until you have acquired the skills (your choice). I have just started and already have websites running – provided in the course for free.
Now for the HARD WORK. I know it`s going to take lots of – but I can`t wait for 2009!

Yes, I hear you and I was a little careful to use words like ‘most work from home programs’ and ‘usually’.

I am not aware of the programs you mention and I suppose I’m writing from more of a South African perspective really where we have an astronomical amount of scamming at play everywhere.
(I am presuming you are in the US).

Certainly agree with you on the be smart and don’t jump in point.

I know that there are a lot of scams out there, but just because something has a start up fee does not mean that it is a scam…in my opinion.

Mary Kay requires you to pay $200.00 for your samples and kit. They are not a scam.

Pampered Chef…you spend $150 or so on the tools you need to sell. I guess people think that is ok simply because they have something they can keep.

I just started working with a MLM company that did have a start up fee. I did my research, and found that it was a very good opportunity. I made my money back within the first month working very PT.

I think the best thing is if you know someone that has experience with a company. What have they experienced?

I am a RN-BSN, and I spent thousands of dollars to enable me to do my job. (education), I also have to renew my nursing license every two years for $100.00. Just
because you have to pay that does not mean it is a bad thing.

I think the key is to be smart, and don’t jump into anything without really looking through the information.

I agree completely !! Working virtually is great but you are right, anything that demands money up front to get more info, etc. is a scam. Great article, thank you !!
