The Best Bank In South Africa To Deposit Your Google Cheque?

Despite my appeal for everyone to come together and request Google introduce EFT payments to South Africa as part of their AdSense program early, it seems as though it may still be a while before that materialises. So for now those of us who receive monthly payment checks from AdSense have to deposit them in one of our trusty old SA bank accounts.

I’ve recently had a bad experience with First National Bank that has put me off banking there ever again which is sad because when I first joined them I thought their service was great.

Here’s what happened - I was depositing my monthly Google cheques into my FNB account but had this whole process to go through every time where I had to fill out a forex form, then que to see the consultant before being sent to the tellers where I had to que again before handing the cheque over with the form to be deposited. Some months I was in that bank for well over an hour even after filling in the form at home.

On top of all that I had to wait another 8-10 days for the money to be cleared and the funds to be available, not easy for me as I rely on these earnings as part of my monthly salary.

All this was highly frustrating and time wasting and then one month came the cherry on the top. First National Bank lost one of my google cheques..! I only found out 10 days after I had deposited the cheque when the un-cleared amount disappeared from my balance. Upon contacting them there was no apology just a “yeh, this happens sometimes” type of attitude which really upset me further. I was in and out of that bank over the next few days and getting nowhere despite raising my voice the one day to the manager and everybody stopping and staring..!

Eventually I sent the AdSense team at Google an e-mail explaining the situation and requesting a re-issue (which by the way involves an extra fee). Sure enough a few days later I received a phone call from FNB informing me that they had found the cheque…. Aaaaaarrrggghhhh..!! Anyway, long story short, after a little more voice raising and persuasion they cleared the funds in a hurry.

There are times, by the way, that it can be in your favour when companies as big as Google don’t respond to your e-mail for a while, for me this was one of them.

After my experience with FNB I decided I cannot risk another episode like this and made an appointment to speak with a Nedbank consultant here at my local branch. Oh.. My.. Word…!! What an absolute pleasure, they did not keep me waiting more than 2 minutes, I explained the whole Google AdSense cheque thing and showed them a few examples of what type of cheque it is so that they could recommend a solution for me.

They quickly informed me that their “Everyday” current account would suit me for depositing these types of cheques so I applied for one. Everything went through quickly and efficiently and soon after that the real test came as I popped in to deposit my first cheque in my new Nedbank account. Absolutely no worries at all, no more than 5 minutes. Went in, filled out a normal deposit slip, stood a minute at the tellers and cheque was deposited. On top of that they even allow a ‘special clearance’ on the funds which means the money is available within five days… Bonus!

I could not be happier with the way Nedbank has given me such professional service and efficiently put through my funds without any incident since then and up until now. I really hope this lasts until they introduce EFT payments here and at the moment I am feeling that Nedbank is the best bank in South Africa to deposit a Google cheque… Any thoughts?

I agree, FNB’s service is getting worse day by day.

I went to fnb to try and deposit my 1st adsense cheque, after waiting for half and hour in the que, i was told that i need to fill in a form and that i should come in the following day, So i went the following day, the lady in the foreign dept. says sorry, “we cannot help with this kind of cheque. it is a foreign cheque, You need to go to Citibank to deposit it”

the next day i phoned my FNB branch to ask if anyone else can help, the lady says yes they can assist and i should come in again, so i went in, waited another half an hour, until someone came, then said ok please wait for the foreign dept manager to help, waited ……only to find the same lady who didnt want to help. AAARGGG

after arguing with her, i knew this was going to be a losing battle, so i walked out of there…

I then phoned nedbank to ask if they could assist, the lady says yes, since it is in ZAR (south African Rands) you can deposit it at the teller, so I went in to Nedbank, i waited for like a minute and I deposited the cheque with no hassles, No Forms, No fuss. although you still have to wait 5-7 days for the funds to clear, but thats no problem.

Conclusion, the best place to deposit your adsense cheque is deffinately NEDBANK.

This is shocking service and it has made me to have second thoughts of opening another account other than my FNB account. Though I have managed to deposit my adsense cheques without hastle, it took a good 21 working days, thats a full month for my last cheque to reflect into my account

    Hey Jackson,

21 working days..?! Sheesh that’s a bit ridiculous ay?

I’m stoked with this Nedbank “Everday” account I must say. I pay a R55 release fee and the cheque now clears and cash is available in under 5 days. This has really solved my problem and what a great relief..!

Thanks so much for taking time to leave a comment, if you ever decide to go with this Nedbank account, you won’t regret it, come back and share your experiences. :)

    Hi Marc

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Three months in a row?!!!… That’s ridiculous, how did you stand for that? FNB burned me once and I was gone like a shot, never trust them with my money again.

    Hi,
I am with Absa bank and have no problem in depositing my Clickbank Cheq with them. I goto the forex counter – fill in a form and the money is available the next day. I have planned to open a FNB account tomorrow but have decided to give Capitec a try as there fees and rates seem to be the best. I will ask them about depositing clickbank and Google cheq

    Hi Justin.

I really want to give this e-marketing thing a try. Ive started researching a bit. I just want to know how do you handle your google Adwords account…because you have to pay them for the adwords you use to promote your clickbank product, so they obviously need to deduct the money from somewhere???

If you could give me any assistance I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Hello Marsell

Thank you for popping in and commenting.

I am not currently using Adwords to promote anything but when you sign up for an Adwords account you will have an admin area that you can log into to set up your ads etc. In that admin area will be a form that you can fill in to add your credit card details.

Google will automatically charge that credit card every month with the amount you have spent using the Adwords program.

    Hope that helps a bit.

I am a full time internet marketer and blogger form South Africa. Standard bank charges me R125 + fees to receive an international EFT.

Now I am receiving Clickbank and Google Cheques, I am going to have a look at another bank.

I wish that they could all pay into moneybookers or paypal.

Good luck to all in our very tough line of work, tough but fun and rewarding. I am only now starting to make a decent income after 2 years.

Would really be interested in knowing if there is any latest info on Google paying by EFT or paypal. Just had a google cheque (my biggest ever) go missing in the post. In South Africa, its NOT a good idea to have cheques going around in the post! It seems so PRIMITIVE to me. Can’t a massive company like Google come up with a better solution than CHEQUES for goodness’ sake.

Its very frustrating, now I have to wait out the 60 day thing before requesting a re-issue and then worry about it being stolen again.

    Appreciate any up-to-date info.

Hey F Hup, Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I agree, receiving cheques in the post is primitive. A while ago I started using the courier option that AdSense offer, they use DHL and my cheques come within 5 days and never get lost. May be worth you doing the same if you get cheques regularly.

Hope that helps a bit :)
