The Google Adsense Change Will Produce Higher Revenue

Recently google changed the clickable area on contextual adverts within their adsense program and although some have seen a drop in adsense earnings, in the long run it will only benefit those of us using google ads on a website.


A visitor used to be able to click anywhere on an ad, the Title, the URL, the Text within the ad and even the White Space around the ad.

This has now changed and you will notice if you run your mouse over any google adsense ad that only the Title and the URL on the ads are now clickable.

Google’s reason to implement this is due to the high rate of accidental clicks on the google ads. While there is still bound to be accidental clicks on ads it’s now more a case of a visitor intending to click and seeing that they can only do this when the mouse hovers over the Title or URL.


The Down Side: Most will see a short term drop in google adsense earnings as it’s now unlikely that visitors will click on a google text ad by accident.


The Up Side: Google monitors all clicks and because there will now be a decrease in accidental clicks on an ad, advertisers will soon be prepared to pay more for advertising with google and the more advertisers pay, the more we earn by using google adsense on our sites. So long term, although there will be less clicks on the ads, you will be earning more money with the google adsense program.

The clickable area within the google image ads remains the same.
