The Year 2008 – Taking Your Blog To The Next Level

Here we go then, flying out of one year and into the next. I hope for you and your family that the best times of 2007 become the worst times of 2008, If that makes any sense?!!

The beginning of another year is an exciting time for most of us. It somehow gives the feeling of new beginnings and a fresh start so I’ve put together a few points that may help you when it comes to making more progress with your blog and taking things to the next level.

Write Consistently: An outdated blog quickly becomes a dead blog. Set aside a regular time of day to write and stick to that time, make it a pattern. You don’t necessarily have to post every day but if you decide on every second or third day to post then discipline yourself to submit articles consistently.

Be Original: Chances are slim that you will be writing anything new unless it’s about your pet dog or other personal issues so make your content original. Add a little humor to your posts and make sure you give your own opinion on a subject. People like to hear what you think about a certain topic and what your past experiences have been.

Write For Readers: Articles written for search engines make no sense to a reader so don’t get too hung up on keywords and writing content for the search engines. Use keywords in your articles but don’t make that your main priority. Before publishing a post to your blog read back through it a few times and ask yourself if it sounds natural. Even better, get your wife, girlfriend or a friend to read your articles before publishing and get their opinion.

Comment On Other Blogs: Whenever you can, post comments on other peoples blogs. Make sure you say something more than “great post” or “I agree”, give two or three sentences sharing your opinion or thoughts on the topic. Commenting on other blogs gets you noticed by the blog owner and other readers, making an interesting comment gets you noticed even more. A good idea is to set aside time (maybe just after you’ve published your regular post) to consistently comment on five or ten different blogs. Once again, make it a pattern and discipline yourself to stick to it.

Monetize Your Blog: Don’t just stick with one method to make money online, you need to experiment and find out which money making programs are working best for you and your blog. Having said that don’t chop and change things on a daily basis. Monitor things closely and give a particular advert or affiliate program a few weeks before changing things, eventually you will discover which ads and affiliate programs are bringing you the most income. If you use google adsense experiment with different colours and backgrounds but don’t make google adsense your only source of making money online, put your eggs in more than one basket.

A big thank you to my RSS readers, my top commentators and all visitors to this site in 2007.

Have a really great New Year friends and easy on the juice!

I don’t think enough people comment on other blogs. Besides you get a link, whether it be nofollow or not, you get free knowledge! What could be better…

I will be taking my blog to the next level this year by only posting about 3 or 4 times a week and start other blogs. The one I am currently busy with is monetize.co.za which is another money making blog and the other blog I am also starting soon is problog.co.za so I hope to have a busy blogging year since I am doing it full time now :) I hope my comment is relevant to your post. Now that I finished typing it looks irrelevant. Oh well. I think I have said this but Happy new year.
